Asian Braised Pork

Asian Braised Pork

This winter I have been making a lot of braised pork recipes.  I love the tender, fall apart pork and it’s such a reasonable price to feed a family.  This Asian braised pork is delicious and the sauce becomes almost a glaze and wonderfully concentrated with the oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, chili paste, and soy sauce.  But what really makes the sauce special is star anise which is literally a star shaped seed pod from an evergreen tree that grows mainly in Vietnam.  It imparts a wonderful mild, sweet licorice flavor.  The pork is braised for several hours and becomes fork tender and just falls apart and I served it over jasmine rice.  Next time I make it I am going to make a quick onion, cucumber and Thai chili pepper pickle to serve over it.  Click here for the recipe….
