Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • Buttercream Frosting
  • Makes 3 cups
  • 2 lbs. powdered sugar
  • 2 ½ sticks butter, room temperature
  • 5 tablespoons (or more) half and half, room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, add powdered sugar, butter, half and half and salt and start out slowly mixing until well combined. Add vanilla, and beat very well for 1-2 minutes until light and fluffy, stopping to scrape the bowl. The buttercream should be light and fluffy and have a good taste of butter and a hint of salt in the background. Add a touch more half and half until it is the right consistency. Use right away.

Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • Sugar Cookies
  • You can easily double this recipe to make over 60 sugar cookies. They are wonderful frosted and freeze very well.
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375.

In a large mixing bowl add butter and sugar and mix well until combined. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. Add flour, soda, and tartar, salt and mix well. Refrigerate dough for an hour.

On a floured surface, roll cookie dough out, and use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Place on cookie sheet and bake for 9 minutes or until lightly browned.

Remove and allow to cool on waxed paper.
