Garam Masala Recipe for Indian Dishes


  • Garam Masala
  • 2 tablespoons cumin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of cardamom pods
  • 2 teaspoons black peppercorns
  • 1 cinnamon stick, broken up in pieces
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves


In a small, dry skillet, add spices and cook over medium high heat until they start to pop and become fragrant. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Use a coffee grinder and grind the spices to a fine ground. Store for future use in a sealed container.

    Wow, what a super answer to the big puzzle of “curry”. I bought commercial garam masala last year and have never even opened it because I couldn’t figure out what it was. Now I want to use it up and make my own!
